A Little Bit About Me
Hello! My name is Shirsha Mukherjee. I am a senior at the University of Oklahoma pursuing a B.S. in Physics with Honors and a B.S. in Mathematics. My research background spans gravitational-wave astrophysics, computational modeling, nanomaterials, and experimental applied physics/materials science. I am preparing to apply to PhD programs in physics and applied physics, with interests in materials, devices, photonics, and quantitative approaches to physical systems.
At the University of Oklahoma, I serve as a student advisor and operations leader with President’s Community Scholars, supporting leadership and service programming for first-year students.
Research Interests
My research experience spans gravitational-wave astrophysics, experimental applied physics and materials science, nanomaterials, and high-energy particle physics. I am currently a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, where I use hierarchical Bayesian inference to study the population properties of binary black hole mergers.
More broadly, I am interested in applying physics and quantitative methods to problems with real-world impact. I am particularly motivated by research that translates fundamental physical principles into technologies or systems that improve people’s lives.
